It's simple, really. Our community needs to double its number of foster homes, and we're hustling to make that happen in the next 3 years.
If we accomplish this it would create a modest surplus of foster homes meaning that Social workers could be choosing from multiple available homes the one that best matches the needs of each child rather than searching for the first home who answers the phone.
It would mean that foster families would regularly enjoy seasons of rest and recovery between placements so their hearts do not become hard and they remain just as eager and passionate and healthy as they were on their first day.
This is a very ambitious goal. And it's going to take all of us. Will you help?
If these aren't our kids, who's kids are they?
To become a Skookum-licensed foster parent is to join a lean-mean trauma-informed team of parents, social workers, and therapists who are changing the world one kid at a time.
This goal means we're in growth mode
If we're going to serve and support 200 foster families, we have some growing to do. Would you consider making a pledge of regular financial support to help us reach this goal?
There are many ways to help.
Not quite ready to be a foster parent? No sweat. There are lots of ways to roll up your sleeves and participate at Skookum Kids.
