Skookum Kids

Many ways to get involved

Skookum House

Children from all over Western Washington spend their first week in foster care at Skookum House. While they're with us, we ensure they have a safe and fun time and that all of their needs are met. This important work is done by a team of 100+ volunteers (just like you) who make themselves available for a few hours each month. It's a great way to have a huge impact.

Skookum Mentors

In this pilot program, children in foster care are matched with a safe/healthy adult who give the child regular, undivided attention. This relieve some of the pressure on foster families.  Skookum Mentors help with things like homework, sports practices, transportation to appointments, and something called recreational support (which is just social worker speak for "playing with kids".)

Foster Family Night Out

On the first Friday of each month we invite all foster families in the region to drop off their children at Perch & Play. We give the children a delightful evening of fun while their foster parents enjoy some alone time. Ideal for groups of volunteers, Foster Family Night Out is the easiest way to get started volunteering at Skookum Kids.

Foster Family spotlight

We send a deserving foster family on an all expenses paid date night each month. Nominations come from the foster parenting community, and we spend some time talking with each family about what their experience has been like. We're always on the lookout for program sponsors, photographers, and childcare volunteers to make this possible each month.
