A Celebration of Resilience

The work we do at the Landing matters, and we couldn’t do it without your support. Thank you!

One day in January, an 11-year-old arrived at the Landing. They had come from something hard and were nervous about what the next few days would entail. But they were also excited about all the ideas and activities we had suggested.

During the three days they spent with us, this youth got to go to Summit Trampoline Park, browse at the thrift store, play lots of Just Dance, create art, talk about our favorite birthday traditions and dream birthday party, eat their favorite ramen, have unlimited adult attention, and listen to all the Taylor Swift songs their heart desired.

“This preteen really sought to connect with me and other volunteers and knew our names even though we were together for just a few hours. In that time I got to see what a kind, caring kid they are.”

- Jessica, Skookum Kids Development Director

This youth was going to leave the Landing the day before their 12th birthday. In true Skookum form, we celebrated their birthday by gathering gifts, decorations, and their special birthday request of Banana Cream Pie, which was made by a former volunteer. They also got to go to the trampoline park for the third time!

This guest's stay reminded me why our work is important. As Program Coordinator, I saw a kid thrive getting the care and attention they deserve. I watched numerous volunteers pick up extra shifts to make sure our guest was well cared for. And our team of volunteers, interns, and staff came together to make sure this birthday was properly celebrated. The work we do matters. And I’m grateful to get to lead our team through it.

- Madi, Skookum Kids The Landing Program Coordinator
